I've Got a Blank Space, Baby...

Space & Studio

Space is a funny concept, isn’t it?

We occupy it, own it, take it up, fly in the outer parts of it, and work overtime to create it. As humans, I’d say we’re pretty comfortable with the concept of space… but are we comfortable with it in reality? I don’t think we are. See we understand it, but as soon as it’s upon us, we rush to fill it. Open family room, filled with stuff. Empty drawer, collect junk. An hour of downtime, reach for the phone. Wake up early, click on the news. Can we just sit and be in the wide open spaces? Nothing to occupy our monkey minds and no distractions to take away from what is? I talked about this a lot last week, the concept of space. See, I think we fill it out of fear and the inability to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. What are we afraid might show up in our wide open space? If the mind is clear, what thoughts or feelings are you straight up avoiding by filling it with distractions?

For me, it was the feeling of loneliness. I used to struggle with being alone. I had to train myself that solitude isn’t lonely, it’s restorative. What’s lonely is accepting the ‘wanna grab a drink’ invite that leads to lackluster conversation and depleted energy. What I’ve learned is this: it takes the feeling of loneliness to know how nurturing companionship can be. Why are we so opposed to feeling what’s real right now in the moment? Why do we numb out and fill our space and time with useless exercises and soul-sucking people?

Let’s make a pact. All this space we create here in the Soul Dive studio - all that side body length, the ironed-out spine, and the oh-so-quiet mind you cultivate through your practice – ALL THAT SPACE – let’s make a pact to keep it open. Take your open heart, open mind, and open dance card and simply keep it free. Why? Because when the right opportunity shows up, do you really want to be too busy to answer the bell?

We are halfway through our March Madness Challenge and it’s not too late to join! $30 to officially be in and your commitment gets you an exclusive Soul Dive hat. The challenge invites you to practice 18 times by March 31. Some of you can do that in a week! So say yes and join today!

Cacao, Breath, and Sound Returns
with Bella & Jay
Sunday, April 2nd

Yoga Retreat | Yoga Meditation | Sound Bath | Healing | Immersion

This guided experience combines the power of breathwork and sound healing to shift and transform your inner state.

We'll open our time together sharing ceremonial cacao, a beautiful heart-opening experience, and an intention setting. Jay will then guide you through a beautiful combination of pranayama breath, the ancient healing practice of ho’oponopono, and meditation. The three-part breath allows us to access and release subconscious and emotional blockages in the body. This practice is powerful at healing emotional wounds, releasing stress, and inviting a deep sense of presence, inspiration, and gratitude.

Once in this state, Bella will share an immersive, meditative, and beautiful journey through sound healing. The orchestration of instruments including crystal singing bowls, planetary gong, and other healing instruments, will ease your body into a deeper state of calm, activating the parasympathetic nervous system to naturally heal the mind, body, and soul.

Light nourishment will be shared after to allow time and space for integration and connection.

Share in this unforgettable and life-shifting Breath and Sound experience with Bella and Jay!

And as the wise poet (whom I quite often quote and play during class) says in her infamous song… I’ve got a blank space, baby… and I’ll write your name. Write your name there. Blank Space, {your name}. Honor the space you create, keep it sacred and hold it close to your heart. When we live life with space we have room for what we’re calling in. You never know what might slide into your DMs.

From my heart to yours,

Alex

PS… Taylor Swift is my jam. Respond to this email or on our next Instagram post incorporating a T Swift song or lyric and I’ll give you a prize next time you’re in the studio.
