Balance & Harmony On the Mat

Balance & Harmony On the Mat

Hey Soul Dive,

Yoga is a universal language.

Wherever you go, no matter what country or the native tongue, when you find a yoga studio there is a connection. No surprise, the word yoga directly translates to union. I have experienced this all over the place, but my favorite example was in Dusseldorf, Germany. The teacher spoke no English. My Sanskrit is only slightly better than my German (and that’s not saying much). I was forced to feel my way through the practice.

I had a choice. Be confused or release all expectations about where I was supposed to be and follow my body into where it wanted to go. The latter is one of the central reasons there are no mirrors in the studio. How you look doesn’t matter. And further, your mind is interpreting how you look and likely altering reality with some criticism.

My point is this… can we just drop the ‘I’m not good at yoga’ and my favorite ‘I can’t touch my toes’ and give ourselves a break? Seriously. The mat is your mirror, people. Your life is directly reflected back to you from your yoga mat. Whatever is happening in your world joins you in your practice. But you have a choice, carry the burden or leave it behind. When we approach the practice from this perspective we get out of our heads and into the body. We become empowered by the practice. Not powering our way through like a bunch of bulls in a china shop.

I know how much yoga serves us in our lives... Do you trust me? While yoga isn’t a competition (ever) it can help in some of life’s competitive moments. Like golf, tennis, and my favorite, pickleball. Curious to know how? Join us this Sunday and experience Yoga for Golfers. Physically, all aforementioned sports leave the body lopsided and a bit out of balance. Mentally, the practice brings us into balance and harmony - 2 things that support these sports - and literally most of your life - quite a bit!

Your practice is your tool for self-awareness. Even when you don't know where you're going, yoga will help you get there and it will bring clarity along the way. It is how you spend your time on your mat that determines the outcome. The first and most important step is to simply show up. We will be here ready to support you when you do.

Meet you on the mat.

XOXO,

Alex
